Sharksploitation Brazilian Style.⭐️

 Bacalhau 1976 is a Brazilian parody of Jaws. The title literally means Cod and that’s exactly what you get. It’s not be be dismissed however as it has some fine comedic over acted scenes that makes this a sharksploitation progenitor. I can’t imagine this limited release movie was ever an influence on the genre heavy hitters such as Asylum pictures or the Polonia brothers but it shares their outlook.Sadly the copy I viewed was a low quality VHS to digital rendering with poor audio. With no subtitles I had little idea of the story but that’s ok, I got the gist. The bikini count is off the charts and this movie is more of an overview of the flesh of  the late 1970’s. Body beautiful’s abound with deep tans that you just couldn’t reproduce in todays SPF 50 plus skies. The cod attacks and the cod itself are bad but in a playful way and no one is taking this seriously. At no time was their any tension and it just meanders to a totally bizarre ending. I would love to see this digitally remastered and put out on HD DVD as for all said it is a strangely compelling era piece.
